Philip graduated from the University of Hull with a Batchelor of Laws degree in Law in 1986. He then studied at the Bar School in London and was called to the English Bar in 1987, when he returned to Jersey, working with the firm then known as Bailhache and Bailhache (now known, after several changes, as Appelby). He qualified as an advocate in 1991 at the age of 26.
He was with Bailhache and Bailhache for some 10 years before joining Viberts as a partner in 1997. He retired from that partnership in 2006 and spent 3 years at Crill Canavan before joining Jenners as a partner at the start of 2010.
He has a wide background in many aspects of private client work, including particularly property and litigation.
Philips personal interests include football, golf, and keeping fit, wine, and modern music.
